Everywhere is STEM

Bringing the culture of science subjects to high schools

Innovating teaching methodologies in STEM:

Why do Gen Z students seem to see science subjects as something separate from their day to day? Why is it that only 24% of graduates in Italy choose STEM subjects?

These are some of the questions that inspired the development of “Everywhere is STEM”. The project has brought a hands-on approach to science subjects to 30 selected high school and technical college classrooms

Funded by JP Morgan, the project shows how math, science and technology are all around us. From Game-Based Learning and Digital Storytelling to Cooperative Learning and Role-plays, learners stepped into the shoes of professionals and discovered how STEM subjects allow them to make a real impact, even in everyday life

From Milan to Bormio: we reached over 600 students distributed across 17 schools, 8 provinces and 11 cities .
G.B., MATH TEACHER

“This project has allowed us to find connections with the work industry that will help students when making choices about university”.

3 tools we used to bring Gen Z closer to STEM subjects:

Inspiration from mentors

STEM professionals met students online to share their stories, resolve any doubts and give advice about the world of university and work.

Tutoring support

We created a pathway for remedial math tutoring, and run WeSchool selected tutor. The paths, completely free of charge, were designed based on the needs of each individual student, meaning that each learning path was personalized.

Fun in the classroom

Everywhere is STEM lectures were not your usual passive lectures! They varied from coding competitions to the creation of a tour guide on STEM places in local areas: interactive activities to learn science subjects in a new way and fundamental training in soft skills for the professional future.

EVERYWHERE IS STEM, TO SUM UP
  • The course took place between January and June 2022.
